Misión Evangélica Bethesda (the organization of churches affiliated with GMI in Bolivia-the MEB) celebrated their 60th anniversary Sunday evening, December 2. Pastors and members of churches from Santa Cruz, Cochabamba, and La Paz attended the event which also served to recognize the newly-elected leadership of the MEB. The board of the newly-formed Bible training center also took advantage of the evening to distribute promotional material announcing its course offerings for the 2019 academic year. Missionaries Dan and Mary Sue Reed and Frosty and Cathy Hansen, along with GMI Executive Director Jeremy Clark and board member Cliff Tulsie, represented Grace Ministries International at the event. The GMI team also visited local churches undergoing construction projects to meet the needs of their growing congregations while also meeting with pastors and leaders, some of whose churches are in the process of beginning or developing strategies for new church plants.

Jerry and Sandi Bomers recently wrote this encouraging update praising the Lord for the growth of the church in Paraguay:

We have had some excellent moments in ministry over the past month as we just finished our first segment of the men’s Bible study and a women’s Bible study started up two weeks ago in our home. We can already see how God has been using these studies to develop relationships on a more personal level. We’ve had close to 100 people coming to the church at least one time per month now. We would love to see the consistency increase as these numbers are right around 35 adults, but this is a huge praise. In the last month we’ve had three new couples consistently attending. We will celebrate our one-year anniversary as a church in just two weeks.

Pray for God to open doors for a piece of property or larger building to rent as we move into the next year of ministry. We are finding that property and rental space are quite expensive within the city of Ciudad del Este.

Please pray for safety in travel on our two-hour drive to and from the city of Caaguazú. We will be changing the time of the Bible study to accommodate the work schedules of some of the Bible study members there. Please pray for the hearts of the people there to be open to the gospel and also to their call as a part of the Body of Christ.

The following prayer request was written by GMI missionary Steve Sherman and was sent out to the Shermans’ email list in “The Sherman Safari.” We want to share this prayer request with all of you as well so you can be informed and pray for this church in Tanzania, too

________________________________________________________________________________________________.

We are asking you to pray for our brothers and sisters in Christ in Mwankuba, Mwanza, Tanzania.

This morning during their three-day Easter Conference there was a heavy rain with high winds that knocked down the Mwankuba church during their worship service.

Pastor Methodi Mwendapole says that several members were rushed to the hospital in Magu about an hour away. Methodi himself hurt his back and was hit in the head by a board. Pictured below is another pastor from the Nyashimba church who was also hit in the head.

This weekend these young churches (4 church plants and 1 established church) gathered together for three days of preaching, singing, and celebrating the Lord’s Supper.

Steve was the main speaker at last year’s celebration in the village of Igadya (pictured above and below).

These annual gatherings are very important for the growth and encouragement of these young churches. Please pray for those who were injured. Pray also that the whole group will be encouraged and especially the Mwankuba church plant who will be discouraged that the church they built just ten months ago has been destroyed.

Thank you,

Steve and Barb Sherman
