How is COVID-19 Affecting GMI Missionaries in the States?

Unfortunately, five missionaries or missionary families were here in the U.S. to share their ministries with churches, individuals, and missions conferences when services and meetings were canceled throughout the country due to the new coronavirus. So the Sykes, Gularts, Menors, Sanchezes, and Brook Seekins have made videos to share with you. I am also including a link to their GMI webpage where you can find more information about their ministries and how to support them in prayer and finances.

GMI missionaries Matt and April Sykes are moving to Nicaragua to help that growing missionary team continue to establish the church plant in the town of Nagarote and to plant even more churches around the country and even in neighboring Honduras. As they move to a new field and begin new ministries, they need to raise approximately $800 in additional monthly support. In Puerto Rico they did not have to pay for housing. In Nicaragua they will need to rent a home and employ additional ministry funds for their discipleship, evangelism and church-planting ministry. Their goal is to be in Nicaragua by the middle of May.

TOM AND MICHELLE SANCHEZ

Tom and Michelle Sanchez were planning to use these next few months to raise support for their new ministry in Burundi targeting the middle of this year for that move. After spending the last two years in Zambia, they will open this new field which will be GMI’s sixth since adopting Vision 2023 in 2013. They will need to raise another $1,000 of monthly support to begin this new work.

The Gularts were also hoping to visit many more churches and individuals here in the U.S. before returning to Paraguay by the middle of May. While it looks like their travel plans have unfortunately been altered by recent events, they did record a video about their ministry in Paraguay which they are eager to share with you.

CLEITON AND VIVIANE MENOR

One of the GMI missionary families here in the US when precautions concerning the coronavirus caused the cancellation of meetings and missions conferences are Cleiton and Viviane Menor who are from Brazil. They are in the U.S. for the first time raising support for their ministry in Paraguay. While they have raised over $800 in monthly support, they still need to raise nearly $2,000 per month and also special gifts for a vehicle and setting up their home and ministry in Paraguay. They are in the U.S. until the beginning of June when they have to leave. Time is of the essence in their case to raise the rest of their funds.

BROOK SEEKINS

Many of you were looking forward to seeing GMI missionary Brook Seekins who was in the middle of a six-month home assignment when state governments began to restrict gatherings and travel. Because many of the missions conferences she anticipated visiting were canceled, she recorded this presentation about her ministry in Malawi. Enjoy and please share!
