April was born and raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Her family was very involved in their church and taught her the importance of serving others. She was saved at a young age and was encouraged to learn more about God and seek His direction for her future. Growing up she had several opportunities to be part of mission teams in Costa Rica and Puerto Rico. She also did relief work in Mississippi following Hurricane Katrina. Ministering to others through evangelism and meeting their needs is one of April’s passions. She attended Grace Bible College (now Grace Christian University) to pursue a degree in Intercultural Studies and Biblical Studies.
Matt grew up in North Carolina. He accepted Christ at the young age of 6 at a Billy Graham Crusade and started going on mission trips at the age of 10. Matt was not seeking a career as a missionary but instead studied Spanish in his school and college, where he got his Bachelor’s and then his Master’s degree in Spanish translation. Matt had taken three short-term trips to Puerto Rico and developed a love for the people and the country. Then he received the opportunity to do a one-year internship at Camp Caribe under Jon Marshall. When Jon moved to the States, Matt took over as the Mission Adventure Team Director, overseeing the stateside teams who come to work, evangelize, and serve year-round at the camp. Matt also began mentoring high school boys from the local church when he saw the need for training up youth to become ministry leaders. Matt has both a passion for serving others and sharing his faith.
April and Matt were both interns in Puerto Rico in 2014 and worked side by side to serve the community. They got engaged in November of 2016. and married October 21, 2017. Matt and April both have a real desire to serve the Lord wherever He places them and however He wants to use them.
