Project #2: Solar Well Pump for Lilongwe

$932 of $2,840 raised

A solar well pump will provide a continual water source for a large plot of land in the city of Lilongwe, Malawi, where the Grace National Church has its offices, Bible School classrooms, and where a high school of 150 students meets. A group working with orphans also rents classrooms on this site. City water has not been available for two years and the well (which the Grace Churches in Malawi put in) needs to be upgraded to meet the present needs.

A shallow pump with solar panels is $1,820 and a 3000-liter tank with a brick stand is $1,020 (the Grace Churches in Malawi will pay for installation and digging the well deeper).

Project #5: Puerto Rico Camp Scholarships

$2,120 of $3,900 raised

Every year we have an opportunity to send kids from “Club Maravilla,” the after-school center, to Camp Caribe to learn about God and grow in their relationship with Christ. Most of the families in our community cannot afford to send their children to camp, so we have an opportunity to provide a scholarship for them as our kids do community service during the summer to earn their scholarship. This past year we sent 23 kids to camp. The best part is two of them made decisions for Christ! Help us send some more kids this year as we look forward to what the Lord will do in their lives. ($50 provides a partial scholarship)

Cost:
$30 for 5-8 years old
$130 for 9-12 years old

Most of the pastors of the GMI-affiliated churches in Malawi live in the rural parts of the country without electricity. Providing our pastors with some solar power would be a huge blessing as they would use it for lighting their homes, charging their cell phones, and studying their Bible lessons at night. It would also help their children study in the evenings and give them more hours in the day for other activities.

Your gift of $365 will provide solar power to one pastor’s family in Malawi while a gift of $5,475 will provide solar power to 15 families.

$1,697 of $5,925 raised

Malawi, like most African countries, has a nonreading culture. A high percentage of the people are not well-educated let alone able to read. Because faith comes by hearing the Word of God, these solar-powered, audio Bibles will be very useful as they do not need batteries! They are small which makes them easy to store yet loud enough to be heard clearly. Would you like to provide a household with an audio Bible where they can gather together to listen to God’s Word with their families and others? Your gift of one or several audio Bibles this Christmas could provide an opportunity for people in Malawi to hear God’s Word!

The cost is $59.25 per audio Bible and our goal is to raise the funds for 100 Bibles.

Project #10: Helping Young Ladies through Training

$888 of $8,660 raised

Most girls in the rural area of the Machinga District of Malawi are married off before the age of 18 to improve the family’s financial status. Unfortunately, most of these marriages end in divorce. The young ladies often turn to prostitution to survive which results in more children being brought into this cycle exposing them to a higher risk of contracting and spreading HIV/AIDS. We want to equip and empower such young women by training them in different skills such as sewing, crafts, home-based skills, and community health. This program will also include biblical counseling, discipling, and mentoring the young ladies. We want to see these ladies valued and respected leading to economic, social, and spiritual transformation of the individual and communities. At the end of every training the ladies should be able to understand that we are all created in the image of God, and the goal is that they realize and appreciate the skills and capacities they and others have.

Most believers in English-speaking Cameroon which are part of the GMI-affiliated ministries in this country are affected or being devastated by the ongoing Civil War. Many have fled their homes and are currently hiding in more remote areas. Even those who have not been displaced physically have been displaced economically due to the civil unrest, making it extremely difficult for people to make a living in order to provide for their families. Supplying each family with a 110-pound bag of rice, 3 gallons of cooking oil, toothpaste, and detergent will go a long way to help for about one month.

This is a great way for GMI to share God’s love in Malawi. Usually people living with HIV/AIDS suffer stigma in their communities. When we go out of our way to show care to them in a practical way, this speaks volumes not only to those who are sick but also to the people in their neighborhoods.

We plan to help 60 people and it will cost us $50 to get one goat to one person. We will give one goat to a family that has an HIV patient.

After the goat has produced four, one (a female) will be donated to another person who is in the same situation in the community.

When girls reach puberty in Malawi, traditionally women teach the girls how to seduce men using charms. These cultural practices promote immorality and increase the risk of HIV/AIDS and teen pregnancy. Having the girls engage in sports opens the door for us to challenge some of the practices, share the message of God’s grace, and warn against the spread and effects of HIV/AIDS and the dangers of teen pregnancy. As we emphasize physical fitness, spiritual fitness through a relationship with Jesus Christ remains our focus. We will also encourage the girls to stay in school and continue with their education.

The projector, together with a portable battery and a small PA system which fit into a backpack, will be used to share the JESUS Film and preach without having to carry a generator and computer. Previously, they could only share the films when they were traveling with a missionary in a vehicle. This will enable the gospel to reach many new areas. Grace Ministries International is able to carry out its mission of sharing God’s grace with the world because of the generous provision of God’s people. Paul writes to Timothy that we are soldiers of Jesus Christ (2 Timothy 2:3-4). As in any army, there are those on the front line and those who support the frontline troops. Our missionaries are at the front working with and training others to carry on the battle. The General Fund represents the people and infrastructure that support our missionaries’ advances on the field. The General Fund is what pays the home office staff, pays the rent for our office space, enables us to promote the ministry and goals of GMI, and provides funds for many other expenses necessary to support the efforts of our missionaries around the world. The home office provides accountability for the funds that are received and spent and, along with the GMI Board, sets direction and vision for the mission.
